Since we live in the beautiful (and rainy) PNW, I spend a good deal of my time watching the hourly weather forecast during portrait season! Fall sessions in particular are pretty likely to get some rain during them. I’ve written a little bit on how a rainy photo session could unfold here, and shared a rainy photo session here. This one was one of my most recent rainy photo sessions from back in December and gosh, I ended up just LOVING it! Due to family scheduling, we really only had this one weekend to do their session–so even though it was a drizzly day with moments of heavier showers, we decided to go ahead with photos. Everyone was in warm layers and on board for the chance of getting wet, so we went for it!
This session was at Champoeg State Park in Newberg, which doesn’t have too many covered areas, so we packed some parkas and umbrellas for in between photos. A few big golf umbrellas are total lifesavers! Both of the areas we chose to shoot in are fairly close to parking areas, so we were able to hop out of the car and quickly get some photos without having to walk too far.
The family brought their dog, which you know is one of my FAVORITE THINGS EVER! It’s totally a risk going out into a muddy field with a dog during a rainstorm, but you take your chances and embrace the crazy! This pup was very calm and loved hanging out with his littlest people. I loved working with a family who was totally willing to embrace the winter weather and have some fun together!
