Today I’m sharing family photo session info for one of my favorite garden locations: Deepwood Estates in Salem Oregon!
Welcome to my first installment of a new location series, where I round up the best places for family photos in Portland and Salem! I’ll share all the essential information to know when considering a photo shoot at these locations, as well as some favorite photos.
Deepwood Estates Family Photo Session Info
As a Salem, Oregon photographer, I love spending time at this historic property tucked away just south of the hospital. The real gem of Deepwood Estate is the white Queen Anne style home at the center of the five acre property. It has a stunning wraparound porch and outbuildings that include a solarium, carriage house, and greenhouse.
Why I love Deepwood Estates for Salem family photos
Of course, the manicured gardens are just stunning! There’s ample shade for summer sessions, and the light filters wonderfully through the trees. But my real favorite thing about this location is just how much variety it packs in to a small area in the center of the city: the gardens, the historic home, the carriage house, and the natural area all make stunning and distinctly different backdrops. It also has all the perks of any great city park: easy access to a parking lot, flat, paved and accessible walkways, and a public restroom available, making it extremely family-friendly.
Where do I park?
The estate’s official address is 1116 Mission St SE Salem, Oregon 97302, but the entrance to the parking lot is off of 12th St SE and Lee St SE, a block south of Mission Street. There’s normally plenty of space to park there.
When is the best time for a photo shoot at Deepwood Estates?
Deepwood Estate is also available for event rentals, which means that they are often closed to the public on peak wedding weekends during the spring and summer. If you’re just visiting as a family, check their website’s calendar before you head out to be sure they’re open. If we’re planning family photos at Deepwood, we’ll plan for a weekday evening only.
Are there other things to see besides a garden?
After exploring the garden, we can add even more variety to your final photos by exploring the nature trail behind Deepwood Estates. It’s actually a trail that connects to Bush’s Pasture Park, another fabulous Salem photo location, but you don’t have to walk too far from Deepwood to feel like you’re in the middle of nature.
Sounds good! How do I book?
I can’t wait to work with you! If you’re ready to book, or just want to chat more about your family photo options in Salem, reach out through my contact form here. Summer and fall sessions usually book about two to three months in advance, while spring and winter sessions book one to two months in advance.
