If you’re anything like me, finding something to wear for your photo session can be a little overwhelming. I go through my closet first, usually, and everything is your standard mom-wear: t-shirts, shorts, and jeans. But I think portrait sessions are really a great time to dress up a little bit! A swishy dress adds such incredible movement to photos, and if it has some gathering or is a fuller skirt it can sometimes billow and sway a little behind you with the wind–I mean, how epic is that? Wardrobe choice is such an easy way to take your portraits from standard to ART!
But, two things:
First, mom life. I hate buying clothes that I’m only going to wear once. So sometimes I play it pretty safe with my wardrobe choice for our own personal portraits, opting for basics that can be worn again and again. Which is totally fine and has served me well! But I’d really love to wear something fun, something photo-ready, just for the day without blowing my clothing budget.
Second, time! It can be so time-consuming to shop for dresses! I include a list of my favorite shops in the Wardrobe Guide that goes to all clients who book with me, but maybe you don’t have the time or patience to go through each shop and find THE dress. You want to show up, have a few dresses to choose from, and be done with it.
I’ve got you.
Enter–the Client Closet. My curated collection of photo-perfect dresses that are available for any booked client to borrow for their session! These are all dresses I’ve chosen for their beautiful detailing , color, and drape. I know each one will photograph like a dream and add that something extra to your session. I love this incredible dress I wore to our Columbia River Gorge photo adventure a few weeks ago. It has such pretty detailing on the ivory lace layer, with layers of champagne tulle underneath it. Once you’re booked, browse the closet and send me your top three favorites. I’ll bring them steamed and ready for you to your session. Depending on where we are, you can change in my changing tent, a public restroom, or your car, and we’re off and ready for your session! At the end of the session, you return the dress to me and I take care of cleaning it–it’s super easy for you.
I LOVED this dusty blue embroidered lace dress on Joni at our Gorge Adventure Shoot! That detailing is just incredible!
I hope this helps my clients check something off their to-do list before their family photo sessions. Browse through a few of my favorites here, and then click over to the full closet here. I’m always adding to it, and right now it includes sizes xs-xl.
