4 Photo Ideas for Siblings

I just want one nice photo of the kids together, you might think as you book your next family photo session. Friend, we can do more than that! Sibling photos are some of my favorites to shoot because they’re SO READY to have some fun. Maybe you’ve got a big brother and little sister, adult siblings, or elementary aged sisters–whoever is at the photoshoot, I have 4 photo ideas for siblings you’ll love.

The classic

This one an easy photo idea for siblings, but it’s where I always start! Throw an arm around your sibling’s shoulders. Little kids could sit criss-cross applesauce next to each other and do this one, and teens or adult siblings can just stand. The key is to get suuuuuuper close (sure hope you like each other a little!). If there are more than two siblings, vary your arms by holding around the waist, holding hands, or leaning on a shoulder.

Dancing or spinning

Truly my FAVORITE for young sisters photoshoots, but this is fun for everyone! Grab hands and play a round of ring around the rosie or just dance around in a circle super slow and then SUPER FAST!

A big hug

Once we’ve warmed up with a traditional photo and some fun movement photos, it’s great when the kids give their favorite sibling a big squeeze!

Piggyback rides

One of my favorite photo ideas for siblings, the piggyback ride is fun for all ages! More active big siblings love getting to do something more energetic during the session, and there’s always some sweet interaction that happens. I like to save this one for towards the end of the session in case things get especially rowdy, but it’s a fun way to end a sibling photoshoot.
