The Rowena Crest Wildflowers have been on my bucket list for a family photo location for ages now, and I was so thrilled to get out there last week for these sweet maternity photos. Wildflowers in Oregon generally bloom here around the end of April. While I had to drive through a rain storm in the gorge to get here, once we started, the skies were clear. Definitely a springtime in Oregon experience!
Visiting Rowena Crest Wildflowers
This location is farther east than some of my other favorite locations for family photos in the Columbia River Gorge, but it is SO worth the drive. Along with yellow balsamroot and purple lupine wildflowers, Rowena Crest has an incredible view of the hillsides surrounding the river, and it gets beautiful sunset light over the mountains. Rowena Crest is just past Hood River, which makes family photos out here the perfect opportunity for a little overnight vacation. I’m already planning to snag an AirBnB and book some sessions out here later this year. Maybe a trip through the Hood River Fruit Loop when I’m not photographing families? Yes, please!
What to Wear for a Rowena Crest Wildflower Photo Session
Luckily, this sweet family lives nearby. Aren’t they lucky to have see this beautiful landscape every day? We styled the session with a dress from the SSP Client Closet. We chose it to reflect the soft, warm light of Rowena Crest. I love the ruffle details, and it was so epic in the evening wind! Sessions in the Gorge, especially up in open fields like at Rowena Crest, often get windy. Layer up when possible and choose outfits with this in mind. I love when clients choose to work with the wind and we can play with hair and fabric blowing in the wind.
When to Book a Family Session at the Rowena Crest Wildflowers
Rowena Crest Wildflowers are in season just for a few weeks around the end of April, so book a few months in advance. If you don’t want to wait for spring wildflowers, Rowena Crest is beautiful in the summer too. In the summer, the field is golden and the weather warmer. I love the Pacific Northwest! The scenery in Oregon makes for a perfect backdrop. Not to mention all those amazing wildflowers. I wish I was closer so I could get some family pics at Rowena Crest! Beautiful gallery!
