Spring wildflower mini sessions went live on my website today, and because mini sessions are perfect opportunities for motherhood photos, I thought it was time to share a favorite from last year! Motherhood photography is focused entirely on the connection between you and your baby. It’s the perfect time to reflect on and document your motherhood journey.
My goal with motherhood photography sessions is to capture what it feels like to be a mother. In this particular session, I was struck by the quiet love these two share. We explored the wildflower field, they snuggled on a blanket, the little one held mama’s hand while they walked, and mom gave him lots of cuddles. I think an important thing in motherhood photography is coming into it without any expectations. Just like motherhood itself, these sessions always surprise me. We usually follow the little one’s lead. What’s really lovely about that is that it means we can genuinely capture that stage. Are they cuddly? Are they just getting the hang of walking and ready to be on the move? When my clients begin their session without expectations, we can easily follow their baby’s lead and just enjoy whatever stage they’re in. Kids are more relaxed and we can capture genuine moments.
I adored the opportunity to add in some neutral colors and textures at this session. The gauzy fabrics of their wardrobe against the lace blanket have such a sweet, organic, and timeless feel. Mom’s dress is one of my favorites from Nothing Fits But.
